Notes
Confirmed chartered 12/14/1814 as "Portsmouth Naval Lodge No. 100". Assigned to District 1 in 1820. A dispensation having been issued by the Grand Master, and dated January 20,1814, granting authority to open a Lodge in the town of Portsmouth, by the name of the Portsmouth Naval Lodge, appointing Walter G. Anderson, Master; Michael Basden, Senior Warden; and David L. Delano, Junior Warden; and the said petition being returned with the other necessary documents, and a petition for a charter: on motion, Resolved, That a charter do issue for the permanent establishment of said Lodge, by the name of the Portsmouth Naval Lodge, No. 100, appointing Walter G. Anderson, Master; John Thompson, Senior Warden; and William M. Sanderson, Junior Warden. 1829 Proceedings: Whereas, it has been represented to this Grand Lodge, that the Charter of Portsmouth Naval Lodge No. 100, has been defaced nearly destroyed by accident, therefore, Resolved, That the Grand Secretary do renew the Charter of ad Lodge, upon the payment of the usual fee to the Grand Secretary, and after the return of the defaced Charter. 1839 Proceedings: Whereas, it has been represented to this Grand Lodge, that (Napthali) Lodge No. 56, of the Borough of Norfolk, has been in the practice of initiating and conferring degrees upon citizens who are residents of the town of Portsmouth, without consulting (Portsmouth) Lodge, No. 100, as to their characters, where they were well known; and whereas this Grand Lodge deems such practice to be contrary to the ancient landmarks of masonry, subversive of the acknowledged rights of Masonic Lodges, and destructive of the harmony and good feeling of the craft. Resolved, That this Grand Lodge deems such practice highly reprehensible.
