Confirmed chartered 12/13/1825 as "Orange Lodge" in District 12. The name is interested, Both the Dispensation in 1825 and the revival in 1847, refer to "Independent Orange Lodge", the name of the charter and all other Grand Lodge records refer to them simply as "Orange Lodge". A Dispensation having been issued by the Grand Master, to authorize the opening of a Lodge at Orange Court House, by the name of "Orange Independent Lodge," appointing Richard H. Field, as Master, Valentine M. Houseworth, as Senior Warden, and Joseph Holloway, as Junior Warden; and the said Dispensation being re-turned, with the other necessary documents, On motion, Resolved, That a Charter do issue for the permanent establishment of said Lodge, at Orange Court-House, in the County of Orange, by the name of "Orange Lodge, No. 138," and that Valentine M. Houseworth be appointed Master, Lewis B. Williams Senior Warden, and Ambrose Madison, Junior Warden. Resolved, That Orange Lodge No. 138, be assigned to District No. 12; Clinton Lodge No. 139, to District No. 14; Farnham Humanity Lodge No. 140, to District No. 3; De Wit Clinton Lodge No. 141, to District No. 9; Cassia Lodge No. 142, to District No. 12; Comfort Lodge No. 143, to District No. 1; Northampton Lodge No. 11, now attached to District No. 2, to District No. 1; New Glasgow Union Lodge No. 87, now attached to District No. 20, to District No. 10. 1838 Proceedings: Listed as dormant. 1847 Proceedings: Whereas a dispensation was issued to authorize the revival of "Independent Orange Lodge, No. 138", at Orange Courthouse, appointing Wor. William Roush, Master, Philip S. Fry, Sr. Warden, and William D. Clarke, J. W.; and said dispensation being returned, together with the necessary documents, Resolved, That a charter do issue for the permanent establishment of said Lodge, by the name, title and designation aforesaid, and appointing the officers named in the dispensation, upon the payment of twenty dollars in full of all arrearages, including the Grand Secretary's fee.
