Confirmed chartered as "De Wit Clinton Lodge" on 12/13/1842. The number of Washington Lodge No. 99, transferred to Louisiana, was reissued. Editor: Presuming District 14 based on location, but not in the Grand Lodge records.
Editor: There are three Lodges at this point named for Governor De Witt Clinton of New York, who served as Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of New York from 1806-1819. The Lodge names seem to shift, this Lodge was chartered as "De Wit" and later records show them as "De Witt". Governor Clinton spelled his name "De Witt" in his lifetime but the name was changed to "DeWitt" after his passing.
Whereas, a Dispensation was issued, by the M. W. Grand Master, open a Lodge at Cumberland Courthouse, by the name, title and designation of "De Wit Clinton Lodge, No. 99", appointing Wor. Carter H. Bradley, Master; Seagub H. Parrack, S. Warden, and John Caldwell, J. Warden.
And said Dispensation having been returned, together with the necessary documents:
Resolved, That a Charter do issue for the permanent establishment of said Lodge, by the name, title and designation of De Wit Clinton Lodge, No. 99, and appointing the same officers as named in the dispensation, upon the payment of the usual fees.
